Job Description

Organovo’s Legal team is seeking an experienced Counsel, IP & Transactions, who will report directly to the company’s General Counsel and will support various aspects of the Legal function, with a primary focus on the procurement and enforcement of the company’s intellectual property. This is a tremendous opportunity for an intellectual property lawyer looking to transition to a corporate environment and broaden his/her skill set. Additional responsibilities may include assistance with contract matters, employment matters, training, and support for Legal Department operations, including budgeting, accruals, and invoice review.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage the prosecution, enforcement, and licensing of the company’s global intellectual property portfolio.
  • In partnership with the company’s Patent Review Committee, identify opportunities for strategic patenting.
  • Contribute to training efforts across the company on best practices for procuring and protecting IP, as well as other legal matters.
  • Draft, review and negotiate IP-related agreements.
  • Draft, review and negotiate routine business contracts.
  • Provide legal support for the company’s human resources function, as employment and benefits issues arise.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • A minimum of 6+ years of intellectual property law practice (either as a patent prosecutor or litigator) at a top tier law firm and/or as a member of an in-house legal team. Experience drafting and negotiating contracts is a plus but not required.
  • Must have experience prosecuting biotechnology patents
  • Technical degree required in chemistry, life sciences, engineering, material sciences, or related field. Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Must have a JD and be registered to practice before the USPTO
  • Must be a self-starter, able to adapt and iterate seamlessly in a fast-paced environment, organized and analytical, have an interest and ability to master new subject matter, have a strong work ethic, be a team player, have a demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams, and exemplify the highest ethical standards.
